What we hold, who can see it, and when it goes away.

What we hold

That is all. We do not ask for anything else, and there is nothing here about your health, your finances, or anything you would not tell a neighbor over the fence.

We never share or sell your mobile number. Not to advertisers, not to other neighborhoods, not to anyone. Your mobile information and consent will never be shared with or sold to third parties for any purpose. It exists so the system can text you, and for nothing else.

How often we text, and what it costs you. Message frequency varies with what is happening on the street — usually around 4 to 8 messages a month. Message and data rates may apply, depending on your plan with your phone company; that part is between you and them, as with any text. Reply STOP at any time to stop all messages, or HELP to reach a person.

Who can see it

Neighbors never see your phone number or your email address. Not by default, and not by a setting somebody might get wrong. The system holds them so it can reach you, and that is the only thing they are for.

What other neighbors can see is your name and which house you are in — the same thing they would learn from your mailbox. If you want somebody to have your number, you give it to them yourself, the way you always have.

Inviting somebody does not hand over their details. If a neighbor invites you, all that happens is you get an email saying who invited you, with a link to this page. They do not see your number, and you are not on any list until you fill the form in yourself.

One neighbor runs the system, and he can see everything in it, including the numbers and addresses nobody else can. That is how running it works, and it seemed better to say so than to imply otherwise.

Households that have not joined

We keep a name and house number for households on the street who have not signed up, so the map of the street is complete and neighbors can see who lives where. That is all — no phone number and no email address for anyone who has not given us one themselves.

Nothing is ever sent to a household that has not joined. If you would rather not be listed at all, say so and you will not be.

How long we keep it

We keep your name, number, email address and house number only while you are part of Groves Edge. If you leave, or if the whole thing is shut down, we delete them within 30 days. We make reasonable efforts to do this — not guarantees.

Some things go sooner. A meal train is deleted once the last night has passed. Postings retire themselves. Nothing about who cooked for whom, or who needed a hand, is kept once it has served its purpose.

Getting your details out

Ask, and they are gone. Reply STOP to any message, or email admin@grovesedgeut.com. You do not need a reason.

Where it lives

On Cloudflare, a company that runs a great deal of the internet, in the United States. Text messages are sent through Twilio and email through a mail service, both of which need your number or address in order to deliver, and neither of which is permitted to use it for anything else. Those are the only outside companies involved.

These pages load nothing from anywhere else — no outside fonts, scripts, trackers or images. The photograph at the top comes from the same place as the page itself. Reading this tells nobody anything about you.

Children

This is for adults. We do not knowingly collect anything about children.
